Makes the World Go Round

Being a branding agency, it always fascinates us the power of a logo and its ability to provide brand recognition around the world. Whether you’re looking at those golden arches or a silver apple, the symbol can spark a thought, memory or even better… action.

Today, being Earth Day and all, we thought we’d take a look at the guy behind the symbol we use and see today for recycling on a global level: Gary Anderson. A 23-year-old college student created the universal symbol in the late 60’s, comprised of three arrows to represent the pillars of the process, “Reduce, Reuse, Recycle”.

This symbol is recognized around the world and denotes that materials are recyclable once spotted. So if you see this image below on your milk carton, newspaper, plastic wrapper or a cardboard box, do the world a favor… protect the environment, get your green on and recycle – Happy Earth Day!
